The 3-Line Version
Stocky: Shopify's own inventory and purchase-order app, included free with a Shopify POS Pro subscription. It handled purchase orders, suppliers, cost tracking, demand suggestions, and stocktakes. It is being retired on August 31, 2026.
EZstock: a dedicated Shopify inventory app that covers the same core job and adds demand forecasting, a low-stock email digest, and multi-location receiving. It installs on any Shopify plan (no POS Pro), and it imports your Stocky purchase orders, suppliers, and costs so the history survives the switch.
If you are on Stocky today, EZstock is built to be the seat you slide into. The rest of this page is the detail behind that claim.
Why This Comparison Matters Now
Stocky stops working on August 31, 2026. The app is removed, and with it the only way to export what it held. Your current on-hand counts are safe because those sync to Shopify. What is not safe is everything that lived only inside Stocky: your purchase-order history, supplier records, the cost you paid per SKU, and your past stocktakes.
That gap is exactly why a replacement matters. Shopify's built-in inventory tracks how much stock you have right now, per location, and nothing else. It has no home for a supplier, a lead time, a cost history, or an open purchase order. Stocky filled that gap; when it leaves, the gap comes back unless another app fills it. None of this is a knock on Stocky. It was a capable app, and for stores already paying for POS Pro it was effectively free. Two lines decide the switch, and they sit at the bottom of the table: Stocky will not exist after August 31, and EZstock does not require a POS subscription you may not need.
What Carries Over When You Switch
The fear with any migration is re-keying years of records by hand. You do not have to. EZstock imports whole purchase orders from a Stocky export and keeps their status, received quantities, costs, dates, and suppliers, instead of flattening everything into a single current-stock number.
The order of operations matters. Export from Stocky while it still opens, run each file through the free converter so the details survive, then import into EZstock. The one mistake that quietly deletes your history is uploading raw purchase orders through Shopify's own CSV import, which has no field for purchase-order history and cannot recreate what it never stored. If you want the numbers behind your true cost of goods once the data is in, the guide to inventory cost and COGS covers keeping those figures accurate as suppliers change prices.
The POS Pro Difference
Stocky was bundled with Shopify POS Pro, which is a point-of-sale subscription meant for stores that sell in person. If you ran an online-only store, you were paying for a POS layer you did not use just to get the inventory app. Plenty of merchants never fit that shape cleanly, which is part of why Stocky adoption was uneven.
EZstock installs directly from the Shopify App Store on any plan and does not require POS Pro. For an online store that only ever needed the inventory and purchase-order half of Stocky, that removes a subscription from the equation rather than adding one.
Pricing
Stocky's cost was the price of Shopify POS Pro, since the app came with it. EZstock has its own free plan plus paid tiers at $19, $49, and $99 per month, each with a 14-day trial. The free plan is enough to import your history and track current stock, so you are not forced onto a paid tier on day one. The higher tiers add multi-location receiving, unlimited purchase orders, and automation as a store grows.
Which One Fits You
You are currently on Stocky. EZstock is the closest match to what you already know, and it imports your history so the switch is not a restart. This is the default path for most stores reading this before the deadline.
You are online-only and never wanted POS Pro. EZstock removes the POS subscription requirement, so you get the inventory and purchase-order tooling without the point-of-sale layer.
You want more than Stocky gave you. The demand forecasting, days-of-stock-left, and low-stock email digest are the areas where EZstock goes past what Stocky did consistently. If reordering late has cost you sales before, that is the part worth trying first.
Do it while Stocky still works
Export your Stocky data, convert it free, and import your purchase orders, suppliers, and costs into EZstock with the history intact.
