Lives inside Shopify Sidekick

Shopify shows you revenue. Marjn shows you profit.

Your reports say a product is selling. They don’t say it’s losing money once you count what you paid to land it and what you spent on ads. Marjn folds real landed cost and Meta ad spend into your margin — and answers it inside Sidekick.

> explain revenue --vs profit

A “bestseller” can quietly drain your bank account.

Shopify Analytics, and Sidekick along with it, report revenue. The best they can do on profit is the number you typed into the Cost per item field — which for print-on-demand and dropshipping is usually blank, or just the base price with no shipping, duties, or fees.

Neither one knows what you spent on ads to make the sale. So a product can top your sales chart and still lose money on every order. Marjn is the piece that carries the two numbers Shopify can’t: your real landed cost and your ad spend.

Real margin math, wherever you already ask. Marjn plugs the profit gap in three places — the number, the source data behind it, and the moment it slips.

01 / IN SIDEKICK

Answers in Sidekick, not another tab

Ask Sidekick a margin question the way you already do — “what’s my net margin this week”, “which SKUs lose money after ads” — and Marjn supplies the profit numbers behind the answer. No dashboard to check, no export to reconcile.

02 / COST

Landed cost that’s actually true

Set the real cost to land each product — supplier price, shipping, duties, fees. Marjn uses it when Shopify’s cost field is empty or just the base price, so the margin reflects what you really paid.

03 / ADS

Ad spend in the margin

Connect your Meta ad account, read-only. Marjn syncs daily spend and subtracts it where it belongs — so “profitable” means profitable after the cost of the sale, not before it.

04 / ALERTS

Low-margin alerts

Marjn watches your margins as ad costs move, and tells you when a product tips into losing money — before the month closes and the damage is done.

Aurora Wall Print dropped to −8% margin after this week’s ad spend.
05 / STORE

Store-wide net view

One number for the whole store’s true margin, plus the products dragging it down, ranked worst first. And it reads only what it needs — order totals and your own ad spend, no customer names or emails.

> marjn setup --steps 3

Three steps, then just ask. Most of your data is already in Shopify — Marjn only needs the two numbers it can’t see.

STEP 1

Install and connect

Add Marjn from the Shopify App Store. It reads your products and order totals on its own — nothing to import.

STEP 2

Add the two missing numbers

Set landed cost for the products where Shopify’s cost field is wrong, and connect your Meta ad account read-only.

STEP 3

Ask Sidekick

Open Sidekick and ask about your margins. The answer now counts landed cost and ad spend.

The details worth knowing.

Marjn calculates your true profit margin — per product and across your whole store — by combining Shopify order revenue with your real landed cost and your Meta ad spend. It answers those margin questions directly inside Shopify Sidekick, so you can ask which products lose money after ad spend and get a correct answer instead of a revenue figure.
Shopify shows revenue, and Sidekick can estimate margin from the cost you typed into the product's Cost per item field — but it has no idea what you actually paid to land the goods or what you spent on ads to sell them. Marjn feeds landed-cost overrides and Meta ad spend into the calculation, so the margin it reports reflects money that actually left your bank account.
No. Marjn's answers appear inside Shopify Sidekick, and its own dashboard lives in your Shopify admin. You ask Sidekick a margin question the way you already do; Marjn supplies the profit data behind the answer.
Yes. The free plan calculates margins from the product costs already in Shopify and answers them in Sidekick, with no credit card required. Pro is $19/month and adds Meta ad spend in the margin, landed-cost overrides for when Shopify's cost field is empty or wrong, and low-margin alerts. Every install starts with a 30-day full trial of Pro.
You connect your own Meta (Facebook/Instagram) ad account in Marjn's settings with read-only access. Marjn syncs your daily spend and attributes it into your margin. It only reads ad spend numbers — no customer data — and you can disconnect at any time.
Landed cost is the total you actually pay to have a product ready to sell — the supplier price plus shipping, duties, and fees. For print-on-demand and dropshipping stores, Shopify's Cost per item field is often blank or just the base price, so the margin looks better than it is. Marjn lets you set the real landed cost per product and uses that instead.
